Hello universe!

Despite the fact that I almost never post anymore, I still read LJ at least once a day so please don't miss me!

Unfortunately this post will also be quite short. I just took the first dose for my 5 day zpac, yay con crud. Luckily I should be recovered in time for the wedding I'm attending this weekend.

Convergence was amazing as always. I forgot to take hardly any pictures but some are trickling in from other people which is lovely.

I'm looking forward to a relaxing camping trip next weekend, I'm trying to imagine myself healthy and all caught up on everything that piled up this week. *grins*

I am dreaming about the desert. I wiggle my toes in my carpet and pretend it is dust, I occasionally pump loud music in my bedroom and dance around like I'm back at the Deep End or Opulent Temple. I try very hard not to be one of those people that only lives for one week out of the year, but...heh, man I can't wait to get back there. I think for financial and health reasons this year will be the last one for me for awhile, and that's okay, but I'm so looking forward to quiet time at the temple, and soy chai in center camp, and being confronted with kindness when I meet strangers.

I think Con got me all playafied again. Don't get me wrong, I love the nerd community and it feels very wonderful to be at con. But at con, there is no sense of time in that casino, both ends of the candle kinda way. On the playa, there's no sense of time in that I am everything I need to be in this moment kind of way. Powdered sugar on my fingertips.

Love

Mostly Quiet on the interwebs front...

Hello LJ people.

I rarely update anymore, although I check in and read friend's pages at least twice a day. I have plenty of things to update, but sometimes it seems a bit redundant to talk about the things I'm going to do.

I dunno, part of being a freelancer is living by your planner and schedule CONSTANTLY, and as much as I love the freedom it allows me, when I'm super busy the last thing I want to do is rehash my schedule YET AGAIN. So sorry that means you guys are out of the loop.

Updates:

I am successfully moved into my new place, living with L now. It's only been a few days but it's way awesome. She has a great vibe, I feel really comfortable here, and I'm feeling more at home than I expected to, all things being equal. There's a bit of adjustment since I've lived solo for a few years, but it's all friendly and nice so far. Yays! Plus, the kitty seems to not be bothering my eyes or sinuses, which was a real concern, so I'm happy about that. She's a very pretty, dainty kitty, and she looks JUST like my friend Zach's kitty in Baltimore, Peah, so I want to call her that instead of her real name. lol

Had a successful visit from my old college friend Mike. Really good to talk to him and hang out. Bit hectic, to happen during the house-sitting, but we made it work and I was glad to have a place to put him up. Good times. Saw terrible theater, made us very giggly.

I'm also realizing I type less because it makes my wrists act up, which is the ongoing curse of interpreters. will be succinct.

Have 2 plays coming up. Pimp posts to follow shortly, but for now: Robots Vs. Fake Robots, and Zanna Don't. Go see both. Awesomesauce.

Have a community garden. Resplendant with proto-veggies (finally). Very relieved and excited about that. Also, love the daddy time.

Daddy and I have a date to go see "Up", with him in costume. It will be epic.

I joined a new gym. It is expensive but wonderful and indulgent. I have a friend who goes regularly, which helps motivate me to go. I am excited to continue being healthier and making better choices for my well-being and my body. One day at a time.

To turn into a hippy for a moment, I'm trying to be better about letting go of things and living in the moment. I need to stop filling my spare moments and just enjoy being. That will help me nest into my space, and will help me feel more connected to everything. Trying not to sweat the full-loaded schedule I have right now (not just work, but ongoing longterm things like MRID fall conference, burning man plans, island trip, convergence, wedding, etc). Circumstances have provided me an opportunity to give up another one of my responsibilities, and I am going to try and be graceful about letting it go (although it is somethign I pride myself on and enjoy). wish me luck.

I want to be swept away in a duststorm, and not see my hand in front of my face, and feel very small and timeless.
The playa scares me this year, although it does every year. I've been burned out there very badly emotionally (finally just now starting to feel like I have closure from the fallout from last year, 9 months later). I've also been pushed very close to my physical limit of endurance (had to leave a day early my first year, barely made it to term last year with AC). This year's accommodations are still very much up in the air, I'm responsible for my brother on top of it, and I'm planning on taking a year or two off after this one, so I don't want to have to leave early because I want to make it to the temple burn. There is something necessary about watching your church burn down and smelling the finality of it...if that makes any sense to anyone else. The desert will try to kill me, as it does every year. I just don't want to give it any easy ways in.

Goodnight internet world. I wish you all the best.

I am completely out of the old appartment (and hoping I get my deposit back, that'd be nice). I have most of my stuff still in boxes in the basement, but I don't care I'm here yay!

If you need the new address please pm me or text and I will provide it.

I'm going to take a nap now.
Oof

Stressful things happened this weekend, but they may become opportunities to grow and let go of old pain, so here's hoping they end well!

In other news I have a few announcements:

1. I'm drinking coffee again. Fuck yeah. Tentatively, 'cause I don't want my tummy to explode, but applied like the deliberate potent drug it is, for maximum efficiency and productivity. Aww yeah. I'm already craving constantly too. I didn't let myself have any today 'cause it was a slow day, but...mmm. Coffee. I have a full schedule tmrw so I get coffee. Fuck yeah.
Chris is dissapointed that he will now officially never get a word in but.. Coffee. Fuck yeah.

2. I'm not sick, but the change in temperatures sometimes congests me (and kitty time doesn't help that), and I"d like to get my ears candled. Does anyone know where to get 'em around here (or even better, wanna help me do it?). SpongeBob? Anyone?

3. I'm moving during May. I'm very excited about all this, it's a wonderful opportunity with cool people. It also means I'm going to be schluffing off a bunch of stuff. I'll first try craigslist, then ppl I happen to see, then I'll be throwing it up on here to anyone that wants to get free stuffs. So be watching.

4. Being a vocal consumer is awesome. Awhile ago I got hosed with a bad batch of ice cream, and the pint was apologized for to the tune of 8 pints of free ice cream BOO YAH. More recently, a movie theater messed up a reel, so I complained and I just got 2 comp tickets. YAYS! *does a dance* Free movies are awesome. :D

Sorry it has been awhile, I've been busy peeps. :) Have a great evening!

Do I really need to throw out my bag of pistachios that I bought at the local co-op just 'cause there is a salmonella outbreak at some place?

Maybe I'm being irrational, but I'm kinda sick of food recalls based on one or two people getting sick.

Now the spinach thing awhile ago seemed a bit more legit. But spinach is also a very short shelf-life product. I didn't eat it for a month, whatever.

Am I supposed to freak out just 'cause two people in the entire US got salmonella? I mean, statistically, I have better odds of dying in a plane crash. WITHOUT EVEN BEING ON A PLANE.

2. In America.

*shrugs* I'm eating my nuts, sorry.

In other news...

I'm broke-ass until I pay off my taxes next month (which I can do; I won't be late, but man being a freelancer hits ya sometimes. BOO TAX MAN!)

Not to make people worry, I'm okay, I'm just...kinda putting ALL my fun money into taxes this month and next (Did I mention I'm paying taxes twice 'cause as a freelancer I get to pay quarterly taxes now, so I have last year AND first quarter this year to cover? Wheee!).

So Claire is making more bentos and being frugal.

having said that, I already made an order last month for some new earrings and check out these SEXY babies...*purrrs*

I got some much needed emu oil, so they were a breeze to put in. They're beautiful, they catch the light like jade, and I <3 them. :3

K, off to do some wii exercising before my second job today! Busy busy claire!

yay More Bentos (27 & 29)!

I've noticed in my bento-making life that I've started making two types: full-blown meals and quick "grabs". Here's why;
When I'm going out for a long time, I make a whole meal in one of my insulated bento boxes or in regular boxes into my thermos lunchbox tote. Those I usually make the day before for a very specific meal. The big culprit for me eating out, however, is on my way home from my job, since I know I'm already hungry, but if I don't stop for food, it will tack a good 30+ minutes on before I get to eat. So I make up anything from snack sized to full meal sized, and they just sit like pre-packaged meals in my fridge until I'm ready to eat them in the next day or two.

Knowing I have a cute bento to come home to spares me spending food and helps me resist temptation.

So let me show of one of each:

Here's a meal:

Note that it is a lot of things that need to be refridgerated. No problem in my thermos bag (the cold can keeps stuff a good temp until I eat).

And here's a "Grab":

Pretty simple, but it also uses up the last of my hummus and olives, so it is a good use of left-overs in my fridge.

More on my flickr!

OMG Cheap Flight for Claire!

So I have travel vouchers for American Airlines (so I'm not paying anyway) but I'm looking online at their website and I'm buying my flight burning man for 200$ each way (and there's plenty of travel times to choose from).

So if anyone is looking for a cheap set of tix to burning man, I'm getting mine round trip for 443 (that's after taxes and fees and everything). WIN!

Grape with soy sauce, medjool dates and olives and cashews, havarti cheese with triscuits and strawberries, and a snack bento.

Yes this is a LOT of food, but this is for my all-day tmrw job (9am-9pm) so it will do me well. :) Yay!
I have several other recent bentos at my flicker site, go check 'em out!

This beautiful show teaches us that through adverse situations, we often find hope and life renewed. Atmospheric and haunting, “The Secret Garden” will transport audiences to another time and place.

This is one of my favorite musicals and they do an excellent job with it. Come support my favorite musical theater company in the Twin Cities! Also, I know several of the bears are already planning on attending so you will be among the prestigious "Friends Of Claire the Awesome Interpreter" Fan club seating (love you John!).
